"It’s the unspoken truth of humanity that you crave subjugation. The bright lure of freedom diminishes your life’s joy in a mad scramble for power. For identity. You were made to be ruled. In the end, you will always kneel." - Loki
I remembered watching The Avengers with my cousins 3 years ago. It was past midnight, and we're the only ones that are awake. Watching while giggling at some of the scenes, trying not to wake anyone.
Apart from that, this is the line that I remembered, and can't help but ponder until today.
I believe that there is no human being that ever walked on the earth, and not demanding freedom. By default, it is in our bucket list.
And the history shows how relevant it is. We can see developing independent countries doing good job in their survival. Then there are still countries in this world, demanding for freedom and independence, and we can see that they are not doing so well.
But, still we have plenty of cases that shows that uncontrolled freedom can bring disaster. There are also clear evidence that only by laws that are governing us, that we are still safe and living until today.
So, do we deserve to be free? Or we don't?
Are we ironically slaves to freedom?
Okay, let's make it simpler by taking a look at our own selves. When we were born, technically we were not bounded by rules. We were free to do what we want to do. But then again, as a baby, 'what we want to do' comprises mostly of eat, sleep and poop.
Then, as we grow up, more and more rules are being subjected to us. The primary source was our mother and father. And we rarely question them in the first place, because we trust them.
Then, when we were teens, we got a feeling to break every single rule in existence, to simply challenge them. Some of them were worth it, but most of them just bring more harm than good to us, apart from our parents annoyingly telling "I'd told you!"
Then, as adults, we have already figure out ourselves most of the time. We know what works and what doesn't work for us. We know what we should and should not do. We know what we can and cannot do.
We know that there are things that we can choose to let go to make our lives better, if we want to.
It's difficult, but we can choose to do it.
We know that there are things that we need to do to fulfill our needs and pursue our dreams.
Those things may require sacrifice, but we can choose to do it.
This is adulthood; where
you have the choice, to not have choices.
For example, you are already working in your dream job. Everything is great.
But sometimes, you are required to work extra hours.
You are required to do tasks at sudden notice.
You may have the tendency to procrastinate.
So, will you just procrastinate and ignore those extra works and extra hours, and basically the hardship, just because you can?
Of course you can. But I doubt that you will.
Why?
Because you know that all of those hardships, if you overcome them, you will be successful.
Success is what we need
and what we want.
Therefore, in this case, you will choose to not have choices.
Because you have already decide what you want and what you need in the first place;
success.
So,
unless you don't want to become a successful person,
yes, feel free to do anything and everything you want to do.
Feel free to judge those people being 'obedient' as not being free.
Because, in a sense, Loki is right. We were made to be ruled.
The only difference is,
those guys that you judge, are being ruled by their own dreams of being successful.
You are being ruled by your own lust and desires.
So, choose the better one.
I mean, if you want to.
You can choose the other way.
But will you?
