“What do you (really) want to do in your life?”

I just saw the video on Aida Azlin and her husband Karim, talking about essentially the question about, “What do you (really) want to do in your life?”

And from there, they literally talk on that, things that you want to do. I mean, even the word want, we sometimes confuse it with what you need. For example, Aida initially said that she wanted the typical Singaporean life; get a good degree, get a good job, get a good husband and get good children.
But then, when we think about it, not just Aida, we all need a secure job and building a family. So, we want them, because we need them.

The question it, what are the things that you want them simply because you want them?
Such a simple question, but especially for adults, requires deep thinking and reflecting.

I was very interested with what Karim said; he believes that every single person should have a creative hobby, or a thing that they like to do creatively. And creativity is not just about the typical art that we think; singing, painting, etc. Cooking and dΓ©cor arrangements are also forms of art.
Even I believe that content producing is a form of art. Though, I should say, mine is a bit tricky.

Because you’ve heard that, “In art, there are no wrong answers.”
But as for me, most of my content is about voicing out my opinion. Although differences in opinion should be celebrated and is not what I’m afraid of, I need to be mindful about my audience, the impact of my writings, how do I approach and construct the topic, and to what extent do I believe in what I write. I mean, do I write it to get views or because I truly believe in it?

This is where the creativity comes in. At least to me.
The way the topic is constructed, the appropriateness of analogies and anecdotes given, how certain points are emphasized, how to make sure that it is long enough to explain the topic appropriately, but still short enough to retain your attention to read it until the end.

That’s a creative thing that I really enjoy doing. And I’m not planning to stop. The frequency may fluctuates, but I’m not planning to stop.

Because IRL me is quite quiet. It’s hard for me to voice out my words, let alone giving opinions. Not because I’m shy, but because my words is always jumbled in my brain. As a result, I talk slow, with many pauses, and sometimes incomprehensible words, and sometimes I just need to start all over. As a result, impromptu public speaking intimidates me, and I don’t get social conversations as easy as you do.

I mean, if someone ask me, “What did you do this weekend?” I may be silent for at least 10 seconds, trying to organize what I will say. And even after that silence, it would most probably be like this;
“Well, I got up, I edited a video… I did some revision too… Wait no, that was in the evening… In the morning I… I guess I worked out? I mean, it’s not really a workout but… yeah… wait, let me start again.”

Which is why, doing all of these really help me. Writing helps me organize my thoughts. Making video (somewhat) trains me to be spontaneous a bit, yet providing editing as a safe filter. Even rapping, it helps me to think as creatively as possible the best, coolest, most effective words to say things.

Currently, I try to train myself to just talk whatever that comes onto my mind, without trying to organize them first. Then I’ll organize them, if necessary. Which, a lot of the time, I actually don’t have to. Looking at the previous example, maybe I’ll answer;
“Well, let me try to remember first… I remembered editing a video, studying for a few chapters. That was in the evening. In the morning I Zumba-danced, which to me quite a workout I think? What do you think, is it ‘workout’ enough?”

So… yeah…

What was I saying?

I mean, I don’t know either. This post today is just a spontaneous reflection on what I’ve watched on Aida Azlin’s video. I hope somehow this will benefit. Thank you for reading.
