How Can We Stop Our Judgement Towards Others

How we wish people do not judge us.
But unfortunately we ourselves cannot stop judging others.

And I do not mean this is a bad way! I mean, we want to stop judging others, but we can’t. Technically because it is wired in our brain.

‘Judgement’ is just a label that we slap onto our instant unverified thoughts. What happens actually is, our brain make shortcut thoughts, accumulated from our experiences, beliefs and personalities, to be more efficient. In addition, our brain purposely favors the ‘bad’ judgements over a good one, for the sake of survival.

So how can we stop our judgement towards others?

Let’s be honest – we can’t. It is a part of human brain functioning. In fact, removing it as a whole would be even more harmful to us.

But…

We can greatly minimize its effect that causes discrimination… by just minding our own business. Literally.

Like I said, we cannot stop ourselves from judging others, both consciously and unconsciously. But it can stay just as an assumption that we would acknowledge, without it harming others in any way, regardless of it being manifested outward or not.

Let’s take an example; you are forced to sit beside a person whose tattoos are full all over his body. As we cannot stop our brain, we would immediately have the assumption that this person looks dangerous.

Without the way that I suggested, you would probably just keep staring at him, the thought that he is dangerous would ruminate all over your head. And that uncomfortableness would definitely manifest outwardly, making that particular person uncomfortable as well, and worse, feeling discriminated.

But what if we don’t mind too much?

We know already that his tattoos are the ones that make him seems dangerous. Whether he is dangerous for real, we do not know. Then, seeking solace from the fact that you would not know for sure, just don’t mind him and do your own thing.

Through this method, your assumption just stay as an unproven assumption, and do not manifest outward in a way that make both of you uncomfortable.

So yeah... don't mind others too much, you'll stop judging others 🙂
