Chester Bennington had left the world with a great impact. Now the whole world is talking about suicide and depression.
Now that we are thinking about it, I have a question to ask.
Should we let people commit suicide?
I mean, why not?
When a fully grown adult, decide to end his own life, why shouldn't we let it?
Of course, there will be consequences, but surely he has thought thoroughly about it.
He must has prepared his family and surroundings for the upcoming scenarios.
Furthermore, it is his life. He knows what's best for him, like every other grown adults knows what's best for them and their lives. And he made decisions based on what is the best for him.
So why can't we respect that? Why we can't just accept it? Who are we to judge what he is doing?
More importantly, why we don't facilitate it and support it, like every other actions that he had did before?
You would probably answer like this:
"Because it is just wrong.
No matter how much you think suicide is the best option for you, it is totally wrong.
No matter how many people hate you and disgrace you and tell you that you should go and be dead,
it is wrong to end it with your own."
Now, I would probably ask you back:
"Why it is wrong?
Because you said so?
Because your family said so?
Because the whole world said so?
Who decides that it is wrong?"
Okay, I agree. No matter how much you think doing something is the best option for you, you may be totally wrong.
So, if we are wrong, we need to do what is right, right?
But the problem is, who decides what is right?
Families? Governments? The whole world?
Ultimately, we know what is best for ourselves. So, the most qualified person to decide what's right and wrong for ourselves, is OUR OWN SELVES.
So again, using that logic, we should let people commit suicide on their own will, right?
Well, listen up.
We have right things to do and wrong things to do because there are humans on Earth. Humans do things on Earth. It is impossible for humans to exist and not do anything.
If there are no humans, there will be no such thing as right things and wrong things to do. Because, as far as modern philosophy is concerned, we are the only beings that have this conscience of what is right and what is wrong.
So, I believe, in order to know what is right and what is wrong, we need to find out why we are here in the first place.
Are we here to just do whatever we want?
Are we here just to live and die?
Are there something more than that?
Bear in mind that, humans are the only beings that also have this conscience of their origins and purpose of life.
So I believe we need to find out why humans are created, then we can know what's right and what's wrong. Of course, it is going to include philosophy and religions in the quest.
And I am not here to debate about them.
I am writing this post simply to highlight this.
If you believe that, no matter how much you think doing something is the best option for you, you may be totally wrong,
then what is right and what is wrong?
How do we know?
By finding out why we are here in the first place.
This is what I believe.
This is just one of the answer to one of the most debatable questions on philosophy.
Chester Bennington did not die in vain, at least.
It made us think and rethink about life and its purpose.
That is one of the things that I am sure we can all agree, a right thing to do.
If you are just posting "RIP Chester Bennington" all over your social media,
jamming out to the classical and nostalgic Linkin Park songs,
and then just continue your life like before,
not taking a moment to think and reflect,
again, I am sure we can all agree, this is NOT right thing to do.
