3 Reasons Why Movies Are Unrealistic

One of the things that I am so grateful for is the existence of movies. Regardless of genre, animation or not, maybe virtual-reality movie in the future, I am relieved by the fact that they exist.

They allow you to experience new realities, explore new realms and discover new perspectives about things, in the comfort of the movie theater or the couch in front of your screen.

But, as much as we want movies to be real as possible, they are not. And these are the reasons why.
Take note here that I am going to talk about mainstream, normal, family-friendly type of movies.

1. Miracles do happen in life, but they do not solve problems in reality
Unlike miracles that usually occurs in the movies that will usually be the ultimate key to the victory of the heroes, reality does not work that way.
Of course, some unexpected things happen in your life, and they may favor you, but that is only an opportunity. Real victory does not occur until you take it and make it helpful to you.

2. Good guys are passive, bad guys are active. But at the end, the good guys always win
Personally I think this is the most unrealistic thing, but it happen in every single movie. Good guys are, you know, good. But they act so passively, eventhough they are being pressured. They act only according to the bad guys' plans, since they are the ones who are always up with plans. Spies, PLAN B, PLAN C, guards, strategic locations, you name it. The bad guys have it all.

Being good is ethical. Essentially to survive in real life, you don't be good or bad. You'd be smart. That means, you need to distinguish between right & wrong, not necessarily good & bad. Even if you have found the right one, you still need to consider the best options available. Being smart means smart in fulfilling tasks, smart in doing good to others, smart in avoiding yourself from doing bad things, and smart in doing all of them at once.

3. Falling in love in movies are just... not real
This also annoys me. Whether in the middle of zombie apocalypse, or living a normal life as a college student, love will get involved. Of course, it's normal to have crushes, but would our life revolve around that one person? Of course not, but movies always seems to view it that way.

And usually it only highlights 'falling in love' part, because obviously it is the sweetest thing in a relationship. But that is only a beginning of establishing relationship, which is the second hardest part in a relationship. The hardest one? Maintaining it.

Movies make falling in love seems to last forever. But ask yourself, how long did you fall in love? Probably just one second, or one day, or one month. The point is, it is temporary. You need to go and confess that you want to establish a relationship with him/her, then try to work it out, and then maintaining it. Along that process, you will find thousands of things that will make you feel annoyed, shocked and even betrayed. But you do see goodness in him/her, and you love him/her even more. This goodness, you will not see it until you undergo the annoying, shocking and betraying process.

So movie directors, how about adding more of these realistic annoying, shocking and betraying process?

As I said before, I love movies. They are great. But keep in mind they are not real. They are ideals of what we want and not necessarily what we need. It is the best to use your emotional & mental experiences from watching the movies to manipulate what you need so you can get what you want. It is hard and it takes time. But it will be worth it.
