Nowdays, more people are being generous, giving money away for charity. It is a very good improvement.
Now it's time to upgrade more.
Imagine this. You are walking on the street. Suddenly you see a beggar, sitting at the corner. What will you do?
Most of the time, we will probably give some money & then walk away.
Now, let me ask you. What if the beggar is your brother? Your sister? Your very best friend? Your relative.
You would rush to them, asking what happened.
Their house caught up on fire?
They lost a job?
Their property is stolen?
Then you will bring him home, treat him good, and try to help settling whatever their problems are.
Most importantly, money would be the last thing in your mind.
You see, those beggars that we see down the street, they are someone's father, or mother, or friend, or brother. They are not just there as a 'money-exchange-with-Gods'-rewards' spot.
They are a human being with life, just like you.
Somehow their life got turned upside down that they need to beg for money and mercy.
Yes, giving out money does significantly help. But how do we exactly make their life better? How do make sure that they do not beg again for the rest of their life?
They beg for a reason. If we can find the reason, we can fix them.
So, if you are happen to be nearby any beggars or homeless people or such, aside from giving out money, try to actually sit and talk to them. Get to know them. Hang out with them. Be friends with them. Show them that you genuinely want to help them, like how a human being would help others.
Show them that you are not just being sympathy, but you really want to fix it to the core, so they don't ever have to beg again.
In addition, by getting to know them, we can eliminate the doubts whether they are really in need or just scamming. Even if they are scamming, they are also scamming for a reason. Who knows if you might actually help them to stop?
Of course, this take some effort and time. It would be easier to just give out money. But it would not help them in long-term.
"give a man a fish and you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime"
Try to imagine yourself in their place. Of course you want money to survive. But more than that, you will wish more that you can stop begging and have the access to live on their own.
So help them. Ease them. Because they are humans, just like you.
