Why I Love Sanders Sides

[spoilers alert]

Sanders Sides is a web series on YouTube starring Thomas Sanders and written by Sanders and Joan Stokes. On the series, Thomas is a guy who projects the different aspects of his personality into mainly four characters called the Sanders Sides (Logan, Patton, Roman, Virgil). With them, Thomas has conversations where he analyzes the various inner conflicts or dilemmas he goes through in his life and tries to find solutions for them.

And for me, saying that I love the series, is an understatement.

Because it's not like I'm obsessed with it too much and watched it every single day (although I did went through that phase initially). I just love it for the fact of how well the series portrays how humans' inner thoughts work.

The four facets represented by the four characters (logic for Logan, morality for Patton, creativity for Roman, anxiety for Virgil) are definitely not the only facets of our lives. We all have more than one views in viewing our own selves, and I am definitely not limiting myself by these four facets. But, Sanders Sanders definitely has utilized these particular four facets in projecting themselves in one personality of one human being (in this show, Thomas). It is definitely an interesting model to observe, compare and learn.

I mean, we are all humans, and we are all thinking. We take thinking for granted, whether we are resolving small or big issues. But, when we can really see a breakdown on how our thoughts interact, contradict, find solutions & middle ground, and make conclusions, it is really an eye-opener.

Like, in The Mind vs The Heart, Patton & Logan were viewed that they kept fighting with each other, because they differ in opinion on what Thomas need the most & the best. For example, should Thomas agree to help his friends move out so he can be good friend, or say no because he had already scheduled other things, and adding that commitment is not possible due to his capabilities?
A classic battle between efficiency and altruism in one's self. Of course, the key is balance. Everyone knows this. But when you can actually see it in front of  your eyes, your vision will become much more clearer & things make more sense.

The writers must also have been making a tremendous amount of proper researches to gain not just bits of information, but a solid understanding on topics and knowledge that they need to bring into the light, for each episode. Not to mention, after grasping the knowledge on the topics, they need to cleverly present it in a solid, good quality plotline, along with God-knows-how-many twists, jokes, and more additional but crucial accessories. As someone who is especially learning psychology, and as someone who do have a great interest in philosophy, I really enjoy watching all of them.

For example, the Can Lying Be Good? episode is not just a show talking about lying, throwing facts a little bit here & there, and make a story revolves around lying. The episode is basically educating the viewers about lying. It provides comprehensive understanding about the topic, and also at the end, guides people on being accountable for their actions after learning about it. All of these are achieved by a mock play of four acts, filled in with some humours, and plot twists.
Oh yeah, don't get me started about the plot twists.

Truthfuly, before this, I was someone who did not really pay attention in the art industry. You know, I kinda took it as a secondary thing (kinda like Logan, to be honest). Like, it's there for only entertainment purposes.
But, this mentality changed when I enrolled into the university. My university has an arts faculty. So I get to see the students' daily life, trying to bring their pieces of arts to life, whether it's dancing, singing, theatre or others.

But why they are doing it though? For entertainment?

That's one for sure, but the other, more important purpose, is to deliver messages in the best way as possible to the human hearts.
A song can get you to feel sentimental about your home.
A dance can get you to feel scared of certain situations portrayed by the dance.
A theatre play can get you to feel inspired by the hero and ultimately to do good.

And of course, in addition of watching and liking about Sanders Sides, my view about arts & entertainment changed. Art can be considered as a key to our souls, and can touch our hearts in magnificent ways. Arts make you not caring about what you know. Arts make you caring only about what you feel. This is its power, where it can change the way on how you feel about things, regardless how true of not that feeling is. And ultimately it can change the way you behave and think about those things. I even write a whole blog post about it, here!

As a conclusion, I really encourage you to check out Sanders Sides. It is a fun, knowledgeable, interesting series about ways on working on internal issues & dilemmas. Which means, you can get the most knowledge and feel the most 'feels', and ultimately it will get you want to do something for your own self goodness, just by watching the show.

Refering to my blog post earlier here, it is an art. A masterpiece, indeed.

p/s: Thomas, if you're reading this, I am not going to wait for 6 months for another Sanders Sides video. Keep that in mind.
Also, luv your vids. *smiley face*
